Under DevelopmentIt's been a short while since our last news update, so I thought I would fill you in. There have been minor changes to the site over the past couple of weeks which most of you probably haven't noticed, but I have some news which should peak most of your attention.
We are making headway with several new features, most notably the user reel. It isn't publicly available yet, but it is getting very close to completion.
Benefits:
-host your video reel online for free and without having to develop your own website.
-find users/crew/cast and preview their work before recruiting them for a project without having to go through countless DVDs or agents.
-create a playlist by uploading multiple videos.
-add titles and descriptions for uploaded videos.
-give and receive constructive criticism on your reel from colleagues and fellow users.
-our player uses the Flash video format(FLV) which is viewable by more end users than any other format alone, including Windows Media and Quicktime.
-higher quality than h.264 compression when using the On2 VP6 codec.
Limitations:
-5MB space for videos(1.5 to 2min at 320x240). More space will eventually be available for users who choose to sponsor the site.
-videos must be uploaded in FLV format within certain parameters. Instructions will be available on the reel upload page.
Obviously, the benefits greatly outweigh the current limitations.
Other features we are still working on include the settings page(to update email and privacy preferences), search functions, project database, and user network. We also will be working on private messaging(sooner than later), the image gallery, and the newsletter which should be released soon.
Thank you all for your patience, check back soon!

Update! FC Version 1.01Good News Everyone! The profile page is now fully functional with new features and an updated design. You may now edit your personal description settings, define skillsets and cast/crew/post positions you would like to fill, and actors/actresses may describe themselves so that producers searching for a specific look can easily find you. Avatars can also be changed or deleted through the new interface. It is recommended that actors and actresses upload their headshot as their avatar.
One of our next goals is to complete an advanced search. This would allow producers to easily find cast and crew based on the information you choose to provide in your profile, or for you to start networking with other creative professionals. This of course is the main reason this site exists. If there are any options you feel are missing or other features which should be added, please either leave me a comment or email me at tim@filmchicago.org.
Let us know what you think of the new features by commenting on this news article!

James Bond in love? Seriously, people. So I went to see the James Bond movie, Casino Royal, last night. Neither I nor the four others I was with could have predicted the events which were about to unfold. Now, I don't want to give the impression that the movie was terrible. It wasn't. There was plenty of suspense and drama, and the opening chase scene is pretty exciting ... but apart from that was anyone else wondering for the rest of the film - where, oh where, is all the action? The movie was lacking in pretty much all of the things you would expect from a good Bond movie, including explosions, gadgets, action scenes, a decent opening and title song, and a suave, sophisticated 007 who could take on a building full of baddies and come out on top of their pile of bodies without a scratch. Then to top it all off, a thirty minute sub-story filled with incredibly sappy dialogue and acting, and a 'payoff' that's almost as difficult to sit through as the thirty minutes prior. Overall it was a pretty good movie, but is it worthy of the Bond franchise name? I say no.
