Reel Playback fixedThree updates in one week! Amazing!
I'm happy to say that the FLV player is fixed. It was not working after the switch to the new server but I discovered the problem today and it should be working now.
If your FLV files are still not playing, you probably need to use the FLVMDI injector before uploading them to the site.
I hope to update to the latest version of the player which will allow us to expand support for other formats, such as H.264 video.

Updates!A few updates so far this week.
First, the "My FC" link in the top menu no longer displays if you are not logged in.
Second, the "Community" page will now display multiple pages of new users (up to 10, but currently we only have enough users to fill 2). I will be working to get the member search up and running soon.
Third, I have been making some improvements to the MySQL backend. These improvements should, in the long run, help keep the server relatively quick when grabbing information from the database.
Cheers!
P.S. Feel free to start logging bugs for me to fix per the last news item. :oD

On the Move againI am happy to announce that the move to our new server is complete. As a result of the move, we have been able to upgrade account limits. Now a standard free account has 50MB of space for their video reels, and sponsor accounts, when they become available, will have space starting at 100MB and up.
In addition, we now have a defect tracking database to keep track of defects on the site. Please help us to improve the site by signing up at http://mantis.filmchicago.org and reporting any bugs you find.
In the future we will also add a feature request section in Mantis where you can request features that are not available but you would like implemented in future versions of the site.
Thank you for visiting!

We're Moving!Hello everyone,
It has been a good while since our last update, but I am pleased to announce that we are moving to a much larger server which will allow us to expand the site much more than is currently possible. The move will also introduce some new security features for the back-end of the site which will allow us to keep all the information contained on the site even more secure than it already is.
We hope to finish development on the core member services in the first quarter of next year, as well as begin development on project management services which will start to shape the true vision we have for this filmmaking community.
I hope you will all continue to support us as we grow. 2008 is expected to be a big year for us.
Being a small team of independent developers, we are currently on the look for people who would be willing to aid in site development. Specifically if you have experience in PHP/MySQL integration and/or graphic design, we could use your help!
Thank you all,
-Rockfx01

Major UpdateIt is finally here!
I know it has been a long time coming, but the wait was worth it. The FilmChicago version has finally jumped from 1.03 to 1.10 with the addition of the user Reel feature, among other new security updates to the site. A lot of background code has been updated as we continue to make security and efficiency enhancements to the site, so if you experience any difficulties with the standard functions, please let me know ASAP through a comment on my profile, or a direct email to tim@filmchicago.org. We will get any possible issues fixed right away.
So what's the new User Reel feature? Log in and click your Profile link in the "My FC" control panel to the left, or the "My FC" link up top. Under the avatar on your profile page, you will notice a link that says "Reel". Click that link to open your Reel Control Panel, where you can upload video reels, update titles and descriptions to already upped videos, or delete old videos to make space for the new. Once you've uploaded your first video, you can click the "View Reel" link in the top right of your Reel Control Panel to see what everyone else will see when they view your reel page. You can then link to this page to show anyone your reel, eliminating the need to host your own website for your reel.
Check out my last news post for some of the benefits and shortcomings of the new Reel system.
You will eventually be able to upgrade your membership to add more space to your reel. If you would like more space sooner, please contact me to work something out.
See it in action for yourself!
In other news,
Internet Explorer 7 has display issues with the site. We highly recommend you get Firefox, since it is better than I.E. anyways, and the site is optimized for it. You can get Firefox here. Updates and fixes for I.E. specific problems will always roll out later than those for Firefox and other browsers that don't suck.
Private Messaging, Networking, User Block, User Search, and Image Gallery functions are not yet working. Those are the next top priorities, probably in that order. After that, the Forums and Project Manager will probably be the next major updates to come.
That's all I can think of for now. Enjoy the updates and happy filming!
